In this episode I’m heading to one of the most fascinating Asian cities: Tokyo.
After exploring Kappabashi dori (Tokyo’s kitchen street), I’m visiting the legendary Tsukiji fishmarket with chef Mark, and we get to see how they cut giant tuna that’s just come in from the morning auction. Mark takes me to his favourite knife shop, where I’m getting my name engraved on a Japanese knife. We then head to Mark’s restaurant – Mark’s Table – and prepare some fish that we bought at the market.
In this episode I’m also visiting Takashimaya Depachika – a food hall – with food writer Elizabeth Andoh. She guides me through the huge variety of Japanese food and shows me a melon that costs a whopping 160€!
I end my first day in Tokyo in a beautiful kaiseki restaurant – Wadakura at Palace Hotel – where I can enjoy the set menu with one of the nicest views in town.
