Lisbon’s market halls are slowly disappearing. While the Mercado de Ribeira has been transformed into the vibrant, yet touristy, Time Out Market, others are closing their door. So it’s with a sigh of relief that I discovered the Mercado de Campo de Ourique in the same-named neighbourhood. It’s a mix of food court and food stalls, and the concept works! The food stalls buy their ingredients at the market stalls, creating a beautiful symbiosis. My favourite market in Lisbon!
The best way to explore this market and the sourrounding neighbourhood is by joining a Culinary Backstreets tour (in fact, that’s how I’ve disocvered it). Celia, who joined me in the show at the market, is a guide for these tours. Generally, I can vouch for Culinary Backstreets, as I join their tours in every city that I visit!
Watch me explore this market in this episode of my show ‘Bom Dia Anne’.
