Alex Bodry’s Tiramisu

This tiramisu by Alex Bodry is a classic recipe from the Kichechef cookbooks of the 90s.

For my Anne’s Retro Kitchen series on RTL, I’m recreating these recipes in my own kitchen exactly as they were — and seeing if they still hold up today.

In 1998, politician Alex Bodry made his favourite dessert on TV – it’s very much of its time, but it’s still modern today! A real keeper of a recipe!

Watch me (and Alex Bodry) make this recipe here on RTL Play.

Ingredients

4 eggs
500g mascarpone
100g sugar
250ml strong coffee
150ml Amaretto (optional)
200g ladyfingers (savoiardi)
cocoa powder
a pinch of salt

Method

Serves 8

Separate the eggs. Beat the egg whites with a pinch of salt until stiff peaks form.

Whisk the egg yolks with the sugar until pale and creamy.

Add the mascarpone to the yolks and mix until smooth.

Gently fold in the whipped egg whites until you have a light, smooth mixture.

Pour the coffee into a shallow dish (add the Amaretto if using). Dip enough ladyfingers into the coffee to form a layer in a dish.

Cover with a layer of mascarpone cream, then add another layer of soaked ladyfingers.

Continue until you have 3 layers of ladyfingers and 3 layers of cream.

Chill in the fridge for a few hours.

Dust with cocoa powder before serving.
