I absolutely adore Pastéis de Nata and I have never eaten better pastéis than in Portugal (my absolute favourite come from la Manteigaria) – so it’s pointless trying to recreate the real deal back at home. Still, I was itching to make some for my Staycation series. I had made Pastéis de Nata with apple compote before, and they did turn out great. For this episode, I decided to combine the sweet vanilla custard with nutty Nutella chocolate spread. And, boom, it works so amazingly well! It might get a raised eyebrow from my Portuguese friends, but give these pastéis with a twist a chance and you’ll love them for sure!
